When the bad men come (Hoki-bo sado-bo)   [12" mix]

only you can see the gentle heart that beats inside us
the power in your eyes, the hand that feeds us
only miracles will change the way you see
and leave us not forsaken with our enemies

every night I’m home when the bad men come
make a sound like a beating on my drum, oh-eh-oh
every day the sun will rise
otherwise I’ll pray, oh

oh, hoki-bo sado-bo
mmm, break the locks in combinations
beat the drum in syncopations
oh, hoki-bo sado-bo
mmm, break the locks in combinations
beat the drum in syncopations

only you can see the gentle heart that beats inside us
the power in your eyes, the hand that feeds us
give me reasons why we hide behind the times
and contravene the ways of our reality

every night I’m home when the bad men come
make a sound like a beating of my drum, oh-oh
every day the sun will rise
otherwise I’ll pray

oh, hoki-bo sado-bo
ahhh—
oh, hoki-bo sado-bo
break the locks in combinations
beat the drum in syncopations

– sax solo

every night I hear the bad men come
make a sound like the beating on my drum, da-da-da-da-da {[…]}
every day the sun will rise
otherwise I’ll pray
oh-woh-oh-no

– drum & keyboard solo

every night I hear the bad men come
make a sound like the beating on my drum, da-da-da-da-da {[sun will rise]}
every day the sun will rise
otherwise I’ll pray, oh-woh-oh

ah-hah

oh, hoki-bo sado-bo
break the lock on combinations
beat the drum, beat the drum
oh, hoki-bo sado-bo
oh, only you can touch me
oh, hoki-bo sado-bo
oh, break the lock, break the lock
break the locks on combinations
oh, hoki-bo sado-bo
oh-ahhhh-ee-aah
oh, hoki-bo sado-bo
beat the drum, beat the drum
beat the drum
oh, hoki-bo sado-bo
oh-ee-ah
oh, hoki-bo sado-bo

commentary
Eddi definitely provides the solo voice part of the choruses here, as well as other backing vocals and there’s a characteristic ‘Eddi wail’ towards the end of the 12" mix of this track, within the extended chorus
