lyrics

provided for research and private study only (see above for copyright details):

Keep a firm grip

over my shoulder my father walks slowly
oh so slowly
right in front of him my mother skips like a little girl
and cries like an old woman, oh

hold on, keep a firm grip
hold on, never lose a grip
{[hold] on, [hold] on}

as I grow older I find it hard going home
just going home
my brother’s eyes, my sister’s cries
could bring me to the ground, oh

hold on, keep a firm grip
hold on, and never lose it
hold on, keep a firm grip
hold on, never lose a grip, no no
ah-ha-ah
, eh-ha, ha-ha-hah

hold on, keep a firm grip
hold on, and never lose it
hold on, keep a firm grip
hold on, and never lose it
never lose it, keep a firm grip
and never lose it
and never lose it {hold on}
ooooh {hold on, hold on}
aah {hold on}
ooooh {hold on}
keep, keep

explanations
I have placed Violet Williams in the band credits following the pattern of the rest of the album, although, in the CD booklet, she is shown among the guest artists on this track

the backing vocals after the first half-chorus are hard to interpret: they ought really to be ‘hold on’ but sound much more like ‘get on’ or just possibly ‘grip on’
